Levels of care in hospice: what you need to know and what you need to do
People who choose a life of caring — and the organizations and communities they serve — deserve a special kind of support.
Written by Marcia Levetown, MD, MMM, HMDC, FAAHPM
Hospice patients frequently require different intensities of care during the course of care. To address this need, the Medicare hospice benefit provides for four levels of care. However, recent studies by the Office of Inspector General have found frequent and substantial instances of inappropriate billing for the advanced levels of care, particularly continuous care and general inpatient care. To survive scrutiny by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), it is essential for you and your team to be up-to-date on the eligibility requirements for the levels of care in hospice.
Levels of care in hospice was the topic of a recent 60-minute webinar presented by Marcia Levetown, MD, MMM, HMDC, FAAHPM — Levels of care in hospice: what you need to know and what you need to do — now available to watch on demand. Now Dr. Levetown answers some of the most popular questions asked during the webinar in this new FAQ document.
