The value of Fazzi's Board Certified Home Health Coder (BCHH-C) course

The value of Fazzi's BCHH-C course

The experts at Fazzi developed the Board Certified Home Health Coder (BCHH-C) certification to serve as an accurate measure of an individual’s proficiency in home health coding. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of ICD-10-CM and OASIS concepts by completing the eight-week preparation course. Lindsay Doak, Director of Education at Fazzi explains why the BCHH-C is so valuable to home health professionals.

The importance of becoming certified
Certifying your home health coding proficiency is an important step in your career as a home health coder. It is a tangible validation of your education and expertise - clearly demonstrating your value to your team. Through certification, you can gain the trust of colleagues, rise in your profession, and demonstrate leadership in your field.

Why Fazzi’s BCHH-C course offers the most value
Coders can now become certified in a way that is affordable, comprehensive, and convenient with Fazzi’s eight-week online certification course and exam. There is no need to leave the office, no travel expenses and while we encourage preparation course participants to take the certification exam soon after successful completion of the course, you may complete anytime within one year of purchase. Additionally, the BCHH-C preparation course is approved for approximately 12 ANCC and BCHH-C contact hours.

This effective, engaging course is led by renowned faculty of coding instructors, coaches, and mentors, including Lisa Woolery, RN, BSN, BCHH-C, COQS; Alanna Lunden, BCHH-C, COS-C; and Anita Werner, RN, BCHH-C, CHHCM, COQS. The faculty have extensive coding backgrounds including training, auditing, and years of direct home care coding experience. Their experience in the home care setting adds value to the training because they understand the challenges that home care coders face.

Covering the major areas of coding competency
Four domains of coding competency are included in the preparation course to prepare participants for successful achievement of certification: coding, regulatory, health information documentation, and OASIS.

The primary focus is coding application using patient scenarios. The applicable coding and OASIS regulations are reviewed and inherent in the exam questions. Also included is information on how to read and interpret physician documentation to properly code conditions using the ICD-10-CM coding manual.

Upon completion of the BCHH-C course, participants will understand how to properly use the coding manual for codes in all chapters, how to locate coding guidelines, and how to properly assign ICD-10 codes that apply to a specific patient scenario – including the primary diagnosis and sequencing of secondary codes.

Understanding the benefits of Fazzi’s BCHH-C course
Fazzi’s eight-week preparation course was designed to be taken online. At the start of each week, a new module is opened that includes a combination of presentation videos, practice activities and discussion with course colleagues. The course allows coders to complete each weekly module at their own pace, generally spending one-to-two hours per week to complete. Participants can review modules they find challenging as needed and receive access to a practice certification exam to test their readiness upon completion of the course.

Those who earn BCHH-C certificates receive access to October 1st updates, webinars, and “Ask the Expert” sessions to stay up to date with coding excellence best practices.
Secure your spot - the next offering of the BCHH-C course begins January 27th!
